Common questions
Does the character count include spaces?
Both counts are shown, because different limits mean different things. Meta descriptions and social posts count spaces; some database fields and legacy forms do not.
How is reading time calculated?
Word count divided by an average adult reading speed of roughly 200-250 words per minute for prose. Treat it as a rough signal — dense technical writing reads slower, and no estimate accounts for someone skimming.
How long should a meta description be?
Around 150-160 characters. Google measures rendered pixel width rather than characters and rewrites descriptions often, so aim to put the important part first and treat the limit as a guide.
