Image Compressor

Shrink JPG and WebP without losing quality.

About this tool

Images are usually the largest thing on a page, and page weight is a ranking factor as well as a bounce factor. Compressing a hero image from 2 MB to 200 KB is typically the single biggest speed win available on a marketing page.

Compression runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. Adjust the quality until the preview stops looking acceptable, then back off one step.

Common questions

How much can I compress before it shows?

For photographs, quality around 80 is usually indistinguishable from the original at a fraction of the size. Screenshots with text and sharp edges are less forgiving — artefacts appear around type first, so check the smallest text in the preview before committing.

Does this strip metadata?

Re-encoding drops EXIF, which is a privacy win: camera photos carry GPS coordinates and device identifiers that you almost never want on a public page.

Should I use JPEG or WebP for the web?

WebP, in nearly every case. It is 25-35% smaller than JPEG at equivalent quality, supports transparency like PNG, and every browser in current use supports it.
